SIAR – Sewer Inspection Autonomous Robot (Jan 2016 – Nov 2018)

The SIAR consortium includes three partners: the SME IDMind, and the universities of Pablo de Olavide and Seville. They are collaborating to develop a remote inspection ground robot able to autonomously navigate and inspect the sewage system with a minimal human intervention, and with the possibility of manually controlling the vehicle or the sensor payload when required.

The project is being developed in the scope of the ECHORD++ Public end-user Driven Technological Innovation (PDTI) scheme which offers the possibility to develop robotics technology according to the needs of public bodies.

The evaluation experiments are running in the sewer network of the city of Barcelona. Local support is provided by Barcelona Cicle de l’Aigua, SA (BCASA), which is the entity that manages the inspection of the sewer network.

The project aims to develop a solution to improve the efficiency of the inspection service while reducing the associated risks.
